Cookies sound mysterious; they really aren't. This page lays out exactly which ones MyGrannySquare uses, what each one does, and how to switch them off if you'd rather.

What a cookie actually is

A cookie is a tiny text file your browser tucks away so a website can remember things between clicks — like which round of a pattern you've already finished, so you don't lose your place when you glance away to count stitches.

The cookies we use

• Pattern progress — remembers which rounds you've ticked off on each pattern, so you can pick up right where you left off. Ours, lives on your device, ~30 days.
• Newsletter reminder — notes that you've already seen (and maybe closed) the email sign-up, so we don't nag you twice. Ours, ~90 days.
• Anonymous analytics — counts page views so we know which patterns to make more of. No names, no profiles. ~24 months.
• Advertising — Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies to stop the same ad repeating and, only where you've consented, to make ads relevant to you. Theirs, third-party.

Advertising cookies, spelled out

Ads are what keep every pattern on this site free. Google asks publishers to state the following plainly, so here it is:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
• Opt out of personalised advertising any time at Google Ads Settings.
• Opt out of other vendors' advertising cookies at aboutads.info/choices — or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu.
• Prefer to see who's involved? Our ad partners are listed publicly in ads.txt.

You're in charge

The cookie notice that greets you on your first visit is a real switch, not decoration: choose Decline and we tell Google not to personalise your ads or use your data for ad measurement — you'll still see ads, just generic ones. Changed your mind? Clear this site's cookies in your browser and the notice will ask you again on your next visit.

Every browser also lets you block, delete, or get a heads-up before cookies are set — usually under Settings → Privacy. Blocking everything is completely fine; the only thing you'll lose is the handy round tracker. The patterns themselves will always load, free and in full.
