You came for granny squares, not to hand over your life story. Here's the plain-English truth about what we collect (spoiler: almost nothing) and why.

Last updated: 2026-08-11

Let's keep this human. MyGrannySquare is a small crochet site run by people who genuinely love granny squares β€” not a data company with a clever privacy page. You can read every pattern here with no account, no login, and no forms. When we do handle any of your information, it's the bare minimum needed to keep the site running and the patterns free. Here's the whole story β€” nothing buried in fine print.

What we actually collect

  • Anonymous analytics β€” which patterns you love, which pages you leave, roughly what device you're on. It tells us to make more sunflower squares and fewer of whatever nobody clicks. It never includes your name.
  • Your email address β€” only if you type it into the newsletter box yourself. We store it with our email provider, use it to send you patterns, and delete it the moment you unsubscribe. Never sold, never rented. Full stop.
  • Whatever you write to us β€” if you email or use the contact form, we keep the conversation so we can actually reply and follow up.

What we will never do

  • Sell your data β€” to anyone, for any price, ever.
  • Make you sign up to read a free pattern.
  • Email you things you never asked for.

Cookies & advertising

A few small cookies keep the site working β€” like remembering which round of a pattern you've ticked off. Ads are what keep every pattern here free, so here is exactly how that side works, in the plain terms Google asks us to spell out:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices, or for European users at youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Alongside Google, other ad partners in our header-bidding setup may also place cookies to measure and show ads; the full working list is kept in our public ads.txt file.

If you're in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any personalised-advertising cookie is set, and you can change your mind at any time. Declining is completely fine β€” you'll simply see non-personalised ads instead, and every pattern stays free either way. The full cookie list lives in our Cookie Policy.

Who we trust with the little we hold

To run a modern website we lean on a few trusted services, and each only ever sees what it needs to do its job: an analytics provider (anonymous stats), an email provider (to send the newsletter you asked for), Google AdSense (ads), and Amazon and other retailers when you follow an affiliate link (see our Affiliate Disclosure). We don't hand your details to anyone beyond that.

Your rights β€” the part that matters

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or stop emailing you β€” and we'll never make it a hassle. An unsubscribe link sits at the bottom of every newsletter, or just email hello@mygrannysquare.com and we'll sort it within 30 days. If you're covered by the EU/UK's GDPR or California's CCPA, those rights are yours by law β€” and we honour them for everyone anyway.

Little ones

MyGrannySquare is a crafting site for grown-up (and teen) makers. It isn't aimed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them. If a child has sent us their details, email us and we'll erase it right away.

Keeping it safe, keeping it current

We use sensible, industry-standard measures to protect the little data we hold, and we only keep it as long as it's genuinely useful. If we ever change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page β€” no quiet midnight edits.
